Research Assistant - Freelance

We are looking for a part-time freelance Research Assistant to provide support for a variety of projects. For this position, your main responsibility is to support a variety of staff on data and research projects, ensuring they have what they need to make sure clients are satisfied and we continue to grow.

Things we might need you to do:

  • Help with the collection, coding, and analysis of data (sometimes qualitative data)
  • Wrangling Excel sheets
  • Write up findings, track deliverables, and create reports
  • Conduct literature searches and gather literature
  • Write up meeting minutes
  • Support the management of data collection (e.g. survey administration and scheduling focus groups and interviews)
  • Editing and proofreading

We work remotely and will continue to do so. The person in this position might need to attend meetings and collect data related to projects in the Washington, DC or Baltimore area.  

Hours will vary from week to week, and the number of hours per week is negotiable. Pay rate is $35 to $55+ per hour depending upon experience, skills, availability, response time, work quality, and project duration.

Administrative Assistant

We are looking for a freelance Administrative Assistant to provide support for a variety of projects. For this position, your main result is to support a variety of staff on data and research projects, ensuring they have what they need to make sure clients are satisfied and we continue to grow.

Things we might need you to do:

  • Help with the collection, coding, and management of surveys (often using Survey Monkey or similar)
  • Support a variety of data collection and processing tasks 
  • Schedule meetings, interviews, and focus groups, take notes, and support follow-up for tasks post-event
  • Process, organize, and file data as it comes in, including following naming conventions
  • Support the creation and maintenance of systems for managing information and data
  •  Work with four different team members on a variety of projects. 
  • Editing and proofreading of documents
  • Interact with team members and clients to ensure project work is on track, using Teamwork and other project management protocols. 

We work remotely and will continue to do so.

Data Manager

In this position, your main responsibility is to manage data technology projects, ensuring clients are satisfied and that the projects are profitable. 

To create this result you will:

  • Manage and coordinate multiple projects to ensure they are completed on time and within budget, and at least 20% profitable
  • Organize and plan project tasks and schedules
  • Manage tasks in accordance with the project management standards at Inciter
  • Communicate project status to stakeholders and key project participants
  • Stay aware of company goals and strategies to ensure projects align with business priorities
  • Facilitate and encourage collaboration across departments to ensure projects are completed successfully
  • Delegate work to team members and contractors  based on skills and expertise
  • Optimize project deliverables, schedule, and budgeting
  • Work with proposal teams to develop cost estimates and project plans
  • Update project management tools on a regular basis
  • Keep the project team focused on the end goal

In addition, you will specialize in an area of technical expertise related to either data analytics or data visualization. 

You will be successful in this role if you:

  • Demonstrate  problem-solving project management experience and skills
  • Possess strong interpersonal and team leadership skills
  • Are organized, have good time management skills, and excel at verbal and written communication 
  • Are able to effectively manage multiple projects simultaneously, without dropping the ball on one project while working on another

  • Are able to build visualizations (for your projects and others) in the BI tool that you specialize in.

Data Analyst - Freelance

Role summary

Things we might need you to do:

  • Managing client data, including record creation, updates, and deletion
  • Managing users and user roles for data systems
  • Providing quality assurance for data sets
  • Commissioning and decommissioning of data models and data sets
  • Processing sensitive and/or confidential data and information according to guidelines
  • Identifying and revising reporting requirements
  • Developing reports, dashboards, and analysis
  • Generating reports from multiple systems
  • Troubleshooting the reporting database environment and reports
  • Creating SQL views to support reporting requirements
  • Evaluating changes and updates to source data systems
  • Training end users on new reports and dashboards
  • Preparing data for analysis, transfer, or warehousing using Python and Pandas in a Jupyter Notebook or similar
  • Data mining and data scraping from websites or documents (HTML, PDF, DOCX, etc.)
  • Reading API documentation and using APIs to collect data
  • Ensuring policies and procedures related to any legal or compliance requirements are followed
Relevant skills and experience for this role:
  • Experience and/or education related to data analysis or data management
  • Experience with Python, Pandas, and Jupyter Notebooks or similar
  • Advanced Excel (pivot tables, SUMIF, VLOOKUP, etc.)
  • Experience using a BI tool (Tableau, PowerBI, Metabase, or similar)
  • Demonstrated experience managing data in relational databases (Data modeling, DDL, DML, SQL, etc.)
  • Able to apply and interpret descriptive and summary statistics
  • Familiar with methodologies and processes for managing large and small scale databases (i.e. dimensional modeling, star schema, data pipelines, etc.)
  • Ability to translate business requirements into non-technical, lay terms
  • Understanding of metadata standards and data quality standards
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Preferred additional experience:
  • Node.js development
  • Advanced statistical analysis (inferential, ANOVAs, etc.)
  • Experience with software development
  • Experience with Git and version control
